Dementia is a syndrome linked to a disease of the brain. It is usually of a progressive nature and can affect multiple functions such as calculation, learning capacity, language and judgement. The effects are commonly accompanied by a deterioration in emotional control, social behaviour and motivation. Most importantly for the individual, clear consciousness is not affected.

There are several different types of dementia, of which Alzheimer’s Disease is just one, and the likelihood of developing the disease increases greatly with age.

Dementia is a degenerative disease for which there is currently no known cure.
